StevenQuincyUrkel(bornJuly25,1976[1]),betterknownasSteveUrkel,isafictionalcharacterontheABC/CBS[2]comedysitcomFamilyMatters,portrayedbyJaleelWhite.Originallyaone-timeguestontheshow,hesoonbecamethemostpopularcharacteroftheshow.　　Urkelwastheepitomeofageek/nerd,withlarge,thickeyeglasses,"high-waterorflooding"pantsheldupbysuspenders,multi-coloredcardigansweaters,andahigh-pitchedvoice.HismaininteractionsontheshowwerehisunrequitedloveforLauraWinslow,hisperpetualannoyanceofherfather,Carl,andhisseeminglyone-way"bestbud"relationshipwithherbrother,Eddie.Amongsttherestofthefamily,Harriette;Rachel;and"Mother"EstelleWinslowweremoreacceptingandcaringofUrkel.　　Throughouttheseries'run,Urkelwascentraltomanyoftheseries'recurringgags,primarilygratuitouspropertydamageand/orpersonalinjuryasaresultofhisinventionsgoingawryorhisoutrightclumsiness.Hebecameknownforseveralcatchphrasesutteredaftersomehumorousmisfortuneoccurred,including"I'vefallenandIcan'tgetup!","DidIdothat?",and"Nowseewhatyoudid."Hiscatchphrase,"DidIdothat?"wasactuallystatedbyCurlyinthe1934ThreeStoogesshortPunchDrunks.Urkelwasalsoknownforadistinctivelaugh,whichconsistedofaloudcacklefollowedbyanasalsnort.
